who am i?
My name is Miguel Vitug, and I’m a junior in high school. When I started my freshman year, I never imagined that hormonal cystic acne would take over so much of my life—how I saw myself, how I showed up at school, and how I moved through the world. As every month passed, I noticed that my skin continued to get worse, no matter what products I used. This led to a decline in my mental health, and a struggle to manage my own crumbling self-esteem and my pursuit for excellence in academics.
More than skin.
After slowly healing my skin and building a routine that actually worked for me, I realized I wanted to do more than just move on. Me and my friends all suffered from some form of acne, and I find that they would frequently ask me questions on what I use or what they should use for their skin. I wanted to document my healing timeline, share the steps I took, the products that worked, and be honest about the ups and downs. That’s how More Than Skin was born—a blog-style space where I can lay out my journey, offer what I’ve learned, and hopefully make someone else feel a little less alone.
Through More Than Skin, I hope to inspire community, real conversation, and foster a safe space for those who struggle with acne. I will continue to scale this initiative through real, actionable steps. Action through advocacy, dissemination of information, and workshops to raise awareness for those who suffer from acne.
